WASHINGTON – US Pres. Barack Obama revealed Jessica Cox, the Filipino-American, who served as his inspiration of helping the disabled Americans.

This is in connection with Obama’s celebration of the Disabilities Act for twenty (20) years past wherein he signed the new proposal.

“It grew when you realized you were not alone, it became a massive wave of bottom-up change that swept across the country as you refused to accept the world as it was and when you were told don’t try, you can’t, you responded with that age-old American creed,’ Yes we can!'” Obama said.

It was said that there will be lot of persons who will gather in the White House south lawn together with celebrity Marlee Matlin and singer Patty Labelle.

The 27-year old Cox was included in the small group who became Obama’s private audience in affixing his signature.

“He said thank you for being an inspiration and I said thank you, it’s an honor to meet you,” Cox said.

If remembered, the said Fil-Am was known because of her capability to fly a plane even if she was born with no both hands. She even know how to drive a car.

“In reality, for me to be able to drive, to fly a plane when I really wanted to, just hop into an airplane with my sports pilot certificate and to be able to have that, I realized the ADA has an effect,” Cox said.

Aside of being a pilot, Jessica also works as a motivational speaker.

After her meeting with Obama, she would then watch a show.

“I’ll be there giving presentations and meeting celebrities like Harrison Ford and (Captain Chesley) “Sully” Sullenberger and John Travolta whose first airplane he ever owned was an Air Coupe, which is the airplane I fly, so I’m looking forward to meeting him,” cox added.

Cox was the second of three (3) siblings who were born in Arizona of an American father, who was a retired music teacher and a Filipino mother Inez.

Cox have mentioned it first that her role model was her mother, who was a nurse and left Samar at the age of twenty-two (22) and went towards America with no acquaintance to anyone.

Besides the first person who was given a pilot license, she was also a double black belter in taekwondo and an active swimmer.

She was also the first person with no hands, who was given a black belt by the American Taekwando Association.

Besides having no hands, she can also type twenty-five (25) words in a computer within one (1) minute, blow dry her hair, do laundry, put makeup and contact lenses like a normal person, during her childhood she had gymnastics, swimming, and dancing. She finished psychology from the University of Arizona.

That’s why she was called “superwoman.”

TOKYO, Japan – Japan conducted its first execution this year. The two (2) accused of a separate murder case were both executed in Japan.

Kazuo Shinozawa, a 59-year old was executed in Tokyo Detention Center for burning a jewelry store last 2006 wherein six (6) persons died.

The other accused, Hidenori Ogata was sentenced to death for strangling a woman and stabbing a man to death.

Justice Minister Keiko Chiba was one of the witness the execution of the two (2) accused.

Together with this, the official have announced the need to study if the said penalty should be discarded.

“Witnessing the executions with my own eyes made me think deeply about the death penalty,” Chiba said.

(Update) ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Ten (10) persons were confirmed dead from the passengers of the crashed Airblue passenger plane near the capital of Pakistan, which is Islamabad.

According to the authorities, besides who died, five (5) survivors were airlifted and brought to the hospital.

According to Pakistani Civil Aviation Authority, a total of one hundred and forty-six (146) passengers of the said flight while there are also six (6) crews.

The said plane was from Karachi going towards Islamabad.

As of now, it isn’t clear yet if anyone of the passengers died from the plane crash.

The said plane crashed in the Margalla Hills while it was already closer to land in Islamabad airport.

According to Pervez George, civil aviation official, the cause of the plane crash wasn’t clear yet.

While it was already near to the airport, it suddenly lost contact with the control tower.

The plane got burned immediately while few parts of the it were found in the crash site.

LAS VEGAS – There was a grand welcome for the unified lightweight world champion Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez in his arrival in Mandalay Bay, in preparation for his fight on July 31, 2010.

Marquez will be facing Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz for a much awaited rematch.

Besides the intense brightness of the sun, the fans of the boxer were falling in line to have an autograph with him.

“I was so happy that all of the fans came out to support me today,” Marquez said.

Boxing champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. slipped in his own press conference about his church wedding.

According to Donaire Jr., he and his wife Rachel have chosen 11-11-11 date for their church wedding.

This means that the church wedding of the couple will be on November 11, 2011, but he didn’t say the detail of the venue of the much awaited grand wedding.

Besides various mockery and criticism from the boxing community, Top Rank Promotions President Bob Arum defended Antonio Margarito.

Margarito will be the opponent of WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao this coming November 14.

Oscar De La Hoya criticized on this, that Margarito doesn’t deserve to fight Pacman because his license was taken away from him.

According to Arum, De La Hoya doesn’t know what his talking about and he must read the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) record wherein it was said that Margarito doesn’t know what was placed in his hand wrap.

It was remembered that CSAC have imposed a suspension on the Mexican-American boxer after a tenacious material was placed in his fist during his fight against WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley.

“Let me tell you something, these are people who don’t know any of the facts. They should read the record of the California State Athletic Commission, which shows clearly that Margarito didn’t know what was happening, and that these pads that were inserted into his hand wraps were not something that he would naturally catch,” Arum said.

Just in case it would be discarded again by the California State Athletic Commission, that Margarito will be given the license, his fight against Manny Pacquiao will be held Monterrey, Mexico.

LOS ANGELES – Undefeated WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez and two-division world champion Rafael Marquez faces-off for a formal announcement of their September 18, 2010 showdown in MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas.

In a news conference held in the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, JuanMa promised a wonderful fight with Marquez, wherein he called it as a “Trinidad-De La Hoya epic,” as a reminisce of a serious rivalry between Oscar De La Hoya and Félix Trinidad during 1990 decade.

“This will also be a great fight, but with a big difference: I’ll win by knockout!” Lopez said.
